Adult Companion Services

Description:
Non-medical care, supervision, and socialization provided to a person age 18 or older.

Covered Services
Adult companion services support a person in working toward therapeutic or community integration goals outlined in their support plan.

Examples of Covered Services:

  • Attending a movie with the person to practice coping skills for managing social anxiety
  • Going to a community event to help reduce social isolation
  • Playing a board game to improve fine motor skills
  • Providing verbal instructions or cues to help complete a task
  • Assisting or supervising with tasks like laundry, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and shopping  (for more information, see the secondary information section).

Non-Covered Services

  • Activity fees (e.g., movie tickets)
  • Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Hands-on nursing care
  • (unless the person meets requirements in the 245D exclusion section)
  • Socialization solely for recreation or pleasure
